Look of the Week: Alice McCall Resort

We just had to share with you the look of the week on Tales of Endearment Blog Spot...We are in love with these beautiful photo's of the Alice McCall Tiers Taking its Stand Dress. Read the article below.

This week is all about Alice McCall. Alice is a super cute women’s wear designer from Australia not too many people in New York know about. Pity, because her designs are not only adorable and feminine, I find them interesting, crafty and bursting with vintage inspiration.Alice sent me this peach silk organza dress from her latest resort collection just a week ago. I love the white felt appliques on the sleeves and skirt. The cut-out at the waste is extremely flattering. Because it’s transparent the dress lends itself really well to “under garment accessorizing”. Whatever you wear underneath will give the dress a different outlook. I’m wearing a 60′s black and white printed bikini from Amarcord on Lafayette Street. The cream sunglasses are 70′s Gucci, also at Amarcord, and match the cream cuffs and collar of the dress.

The Chloe sandals must be the prettiest shoes I’ve ever seen. The design is very stoic and simple but the beaded ankle strap adds just that bit of chic evening elegance. The toe strap is beige leather, the heel is black suede and the sole is wooden. I bought them on a whim at the store uptown. Something so beautiful just needed to go in my closet.

Alice McCall-The Muse

For the Love of Vintage:

Editor and Founder of Tales of Endearment Blog Natalie Joos spends her days casting for shows like ADAM and Yigal AzrouĆ«l and editorials for the likes of Mario Sorrenti and Mariano Vivanco, her passion is vintage clothing. The magical blog,  highlights Natalie’s  “Muses,” impeccably styled girls who share her secondhand Vintage obsession. Take a look at her beautiful blog below..
In a new partnership with Style.com, Tales of Endearment’s subjects will preview their shoots on Style File. The latest muse is no other than  the English stylist-turned-designer Alice McCall,Alice is certainly no new comer to the Vintage World. Years ago, she created a one-off collection of customized fifties-style dresses with JJ Hudson (the designer behind cult label Noki, a close friend from her stylist days at MTV), for the Pineal Eye in Covent Garden. Katy England happened to pick them out for Kate Moss and shortly thereafter, McCall explains, “she was pictured in Hello! Magazine in the really wacky prom dress with “Texas Chain Saw Massacre” written across the front. It was great.”

McCall has since styled the likes of Blondie, Kelis, and the girls of Destiny’s Child, but lately she’s put that aside to dedicate her efforts to her two labels, Alice McCall and House of Wilde. From her new home base in Bali, the designer (who was featured on Tales of Endearment today alongside her assistant Carli Turland, pictured) talked to Style.com about her early days at Portobello Market hunting for vintage treasures and her passion for seventies fashion.

How would you describe your style?Very eclectic. It’s a mix of vintage and new, with almost every day channeling a different look, from bohemian or biker girl, to just clean and modern. I love to shop in Hong Kong at Lane Crawford, but I also love vintage markets in Paris, London, and Sydney.

What era inspires your look?
I love the seventies at the moment… a wide-leg culotte with bodysuits and loads of gold jewelry. I am not inspired by people; more by moods.

How did you first become interested in vintage clothing?
When I moved to London at 19, I would be the first there to Portobello Market on a Friday morning and spend all day absorbed in the beauty of all these unique old vintage pieces. You really would find some bargains—I have a few Bill Gibb and Ossie Clark pieces from those times, which are still favorites in the wardrobe.

What are some of your other top picks from your wardrobe, both vintage and non-vintage?
I am a big fan of Balenciaga heels and Balenciaga pieces from ten years ago. To me, these pieces never date—I have one from around 2005 that is a charcoal knit top mixed with broderie anglaise and corset detailing up the front. I have been wearing this piece a lot. I am really into long, exaggerated silhouettes—wide-leg trousers with heels, a simple top, and great jewelry.

Since you live in Bali now, where do you like to shop for vintage?
I love batik as a technique. There are places in Bali where you can find seventies batik pieces that are fabulous to wear now. There are a couple of markets in Bali that are full of vintage pieces and they are very cheap, but you can find some winners.

How does vintage play into your design aesthetic these days?
Vintage plays a big part, especially collectors’ pieces like YSL, Givenchy, Bill Gibb, Balenciaga, and Ossie Clark, that are to be cherished and not customized. I buy a lot of great Victorian pieces and I get very inspired by the craftwork, from the embroidery to the cut work, as well as the hand finishes.

Finish the thought: What’s old is new again when… it’s a pair of bell bottoms, like my Rochas ones, but instead of looking hippie, you pair them with a clean white shirt and a statement diamanteĆ© necklace.

Zimmermann - Poolside Style

"Zimmermann is as Australian as the sun and the sand" Rosie Byrne
This week Aussie label  Zimmermann hosted a poolside dinner gathering stylists and Editors at the Chateau Marmont along with actress (and fellow Aussie and huge long time fan of the brand) Rose Byrne to introduce its 2012 Resort Swim Collection.
From Runway to Pool Side, Rosie Byrne  looking beautiful as ever in Zimmermann

“I have always loved the line’s ‘70s flavor,” says Byrne, who looked divine in a woven ivory dress from the collection,  featuring delicate cut outs and embroidery at the neck line teamed with Nicholas Kirkwood heels . “I remember buying a peachy floral swimsuit from them years ago---the line has grown so much but it still holds true to its signature look.”

Known for its brightly hued ready-to-wear collection and chic swimsuits, last Month Zimmermann opened its first U.S. store on Robertson Boulevard. “The pieces really suit L.A. with the climate and colors-women come in and they just linger for hours,” says head designer Nicky Zimmerman who conceived her namesake brand out of a garage in 1991 with her sister (and managing director) Simone. “I love vintage, and that continues to be a strong inspiration.” Standouts included a signature low-cut one-piece in teal and a floral cover up.

A Chip Off The Old Block

Imagine the excitement this Morning when on this gorgeous Sunny day we received the delightful SS12 Chipie collection. Being a chipie girl way back in the day I am super excited about this brand and it fills me with an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. I'm thinking floral dungarees, 90's Brit Pop and hot hot School holidays...Anyways that's enough day dreaming from me and back to the point- Chipie shoes are re launching into the UK for SS/12 . The French brand offers washed canvas lines and natural linen shoes ranging from £13-£22 at wholesale.

As a Philosophy, Chipie has been activating an authentic and vintage spirit since its creation. Chipie canvas is almost hand-crafted while keeping its jeaner’s origins. Campus revival atmosphere is also most present in all collection.”

My personal Favorite- Zazie Fleur in floral Print
The word ‘Chipie’ comes from the French word; ‘mischievous’. Founded in 1967, Jean-Michel Signoles turned his hand to fashion at age 17 when he arrived in America, where he soon opened his own tailors. Once established, Chipie started a junior range in 1979 and ten years later the brand started designing Chipie shoes. Today, the label has a huge international presence, especially with children who enjoy the cute and fashionable designs. All the basics are included in these designs; sneakers, trainers, boots and lace ups.

For SS12 expect to see Chipie's traditional sneakers in a huge range of colour's, from brights to pastels to faded washes. For the more trend lead pieces expect to see floral and lace sneakers and pretty woven ribbon boating shoes. Is it too greedy to want a pair in every colour?

Style Name-Joseph

If you would like to book an appointment to view the collection or for further information please email Nicola@claretshowroom .

We will be showing Chipie at Pure London-Olympia from the 7TH-9TH August Stand F0331

Sneak Peak-House of Harlow 1960 SS12 Shoe Collection

House of Harlow 1960 Spring 2012 Footwear Collection

We were super excited at the office today when we received a sneak preview of House of Harlow's 1960 SS12 Collection from the US headquarters.

House of Harlow 1960 is known for Nicole Richie’s unique signature style and her latest collection doesn't disappoint. Never one to blend in with the crowd, Nicole’s Spring 2012 footwear collection conveys her love for ancient cultures and artisan details.

For the SS12 collection Nicole wanted to explore past traditions and translate their stories into wearable fashion. Inspired by the enchanting Souks of Marrakech, as well as Egyptian Sarcophagus and the serpents that guarded them, the feminine qualities are juxtaposed by intricate woven details, saturated colors and hardware that brings the old world to present day.  The distinct pieces in this collection will surely set any woman apart from the masses, letting her individuality shine.
